MY
PROMISE
Being elected to local municipal council, means you hold decision making power; but it is shared. No one member, without a majority of council support can make a decision or advance a specific item/ "promise", pass a bylaw or motion. Individual members can also not direct or instruct municipal staff outside of council. You are part of a decision making team. Promising to fix and road, lower taxes or build a new park is not a commitment one running for council can make.
My promise - is to the responsibilities of my role.
When you vote, you are placing your trust in the decision making ability of those you elect and that when it comes time to vote, that they will make the right thoughtful choice for you.
I have shown up as I said I would. I have perfect attendance at every single council meeting, special council meeting, planning and committee of adjustment meeting as well as attended every single meeting of committees and boards that I have been appointed to.
However, It's not just about showing up; it's about showing up prepared. Prepared means hours and hours of reading and research before meetings. conversations with staff, residents and community groups. It's note taking and developing appropriate questions for delegations and of reports. It's consulting background info, other reports, best practices and examples from other municipalities and neighbors. It's sifting through acts, bylaws and local and provincial policy. You can rewatch any meeting (available on Youtube) to see for yourself - I aim to be the most prepared in the room.
For the past 4 years I have continued to engage, discuss and be available to listen to you, beyond any election campaign. My phone is always on for calls or texts, email open and I remained available to meet. I'm active and available.
I have made my role and responsibilities as Councillor a priority.
Below, is what I promised, committed to and delivered on in 2022 through 2026 to fulfill my role, and will continue to promise and be held accountable to in the 2026 to 2030 term. These are not just words - These are my commitments.

I will make myself available to hear your feedback, ideas and concerns. I will provide easy means of contact to reach me by phone, email and in person.
To be informed

To be respectful of staff, fellow Council members, and members of the community. I will work collaboratively.
To learn
I don't know it all or have every solution. I will educate myself on the subjects, policies and procedures to make make better, more informed decisions for you.
